JOB SUMMARY:

Provide classroom, targeted instruction for migrant and title IA and LEP students in language arts, math and/or science; manage educational assistants and student interns; maintain classroom discipline; conduct standardized pre and post testing; align curriculum with grade level standards; analyze student performance test results and create curriculum and use online programs to help students reach grade standards; implement GLAD and /or ELD strategies with support from colleagues and director, work in PLC’s; prepare student presentation for closing ceremony; and communicate with parents as needed. Commitment to attending all staff in-service meetings.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:  Knowledge of: Specific curriculum content for reading. Skilled in: Lesson plan development, implementation of learning activities, behavior management, assessment, and teaching to individual student skill levels.  Ability to: Ability to design or adopt curriculum and assessment tools for use with LEP and migrant students; demonstrated ability in classroom organization and behavior management; understanding of social and cultural issues affecting migrant students and their families. Ability to communicate orally and in writing; build relationships with students, parents, and staff; and train and assist classroom teachers in reading instructional techniques.  Ability to communicate with Spanish speaking students and parents preferred.

 

Experience:  Experience teaching migrant, Title IA, and Title III students. Preference given to bilingual candidates. Technology skills and GLAD and/or other sheltered instruction training. Bilingual/Spanish preferred.

 

Education:  Completion of a higher education Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in education/teaching.

 

Certification Required:  A valid teaching license issued by the Oregon Teacher Standards and Practices Commission with K-5 and ESOL endorsements.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Develop and maintain a classroom environment conducive to effective learning.

  2. Assist in the planning of a program of reading for students that meets the learning needs and abilities of students.

  3. Employ selected instructional techniques and instructional media consistent with the District Reading initiative.

  4. Work with classroom teachers to support reading instruction and promote effective reading instructional techniques in the classroom.

  5. Act as a resource person in reading for classroom teachers.

  6. Develop and maintain regular and effective communications with students, parents, staff,administration, and the community.
  7. Assist in the assessment of student interests, abilities, and learning styles.

  8. Assist the district in assessment of learner outcomes on a regular cycle to determine individual student progress and program effectiveness and maintain such records as required.

  9. Promote cooperative teaching experiences within the regular classroom.

  10. Assist in the development of and provide workshops, inservice training and/or modeling of effective teaching techniques and activities that promote reading.

  11. Act as an advocate for students experiencing difficulty in learning to read.

  12. Perform other duties as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Language SkillsAbility to read English and comprehend complex technical language.  Ability to write memoranda, correspondence, lessons plans, reports, and student achievement summaries in English.  Ability to effectively present information in one-to-one and small group situations.

 

Mathematical SkillsAbility to perform basic mathematical calculations with a high degree of accuracy. 

 

Reasoning AbilityAbility to apply common sense to carry out detailed, but basic, written, or oral instructions in English.  Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

 

Other Skills and AbilitiesAbility to work collaboratively and establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisor(s), staff, students, parents and community.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk and may be continuously required to stand.  The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk while performing the duties of this job.  The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.  The employee continuously uses hand strength to grasp tools.  The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.  The employee may be required to sit at a desk and use a computer for long periods of time.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Works in a school environment.  Able to use a telephone, operate a computer, and use other office equipment.  Able to drive to other program sites and meetings.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Salary and work year in accordance with negotiated agreement between licensed teachers and the district.

 

CLASSIFICATION/LOCATION:

Licensed, temporary summer position at Edwards Elementary School.

 

HOURS/DAYS:  

7.5 hours/day (8:00 – 3:30) for 18days

Monday – Thursday July 8, 2024 through August 2, 2024, plus 16 hrs for PD/prep BASED ON ENROLLMENT AND GRANT FUNDING.
