JOB SUMMARY:

Communicating the follwoing with students and their families who have limited English proficiency: students' academic progress; classroom rules; course syllabi, school registration; issues that affect students' learning, e.g. career plans, attendance, behavior, college prepaation and homework.  Work with teachers, principals, studens and patrons to support student learaning inthe classroom.  Make periodic home visits to ensure ongoing communication.  Track academic progress of studen and report progress to parents on a consistent basis. Support credit recovery progress.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Understands cultural components and works collaboratively with team members.  Strong communication skills, ability to build relationships with students and parents.

 

Requirements:

Requires fluency in Spanish and excellent communication skills with speakers of both English and Spanish.  Understanding of the experiences, working and living conditions, language and culture of Hispanic society  Prior experience with students in an educational setting and working within the Latino Community. 

 

Education: Two years of college, associate's degree or passing score on a para-professional exam in reading, writing and math as required by federal law.  

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

 

Language Skills:

Fluency in English and strong fluency in Spanish.  Ability to write clear and concise communications in English and Spanish.

 

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations with a high degree of accuracy.

 

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense to carry out detailed, but basic, written or oral instructions in English. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

 

Other Skills and Abilities:

Ability to work collaboratively and establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, supervisor(s), staff, students, parents and community.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk and may be continuously required to stand. The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk while performing the duties of this job. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee continuously uses hand strength to grasp tools. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. The employee may be required to sit at a desk and use a computer for long periods of time.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Works in a classroom environment in close proximity to students and other adults. May encounter students with emotional problems or hostile attitudes. May be required to use a telephone and operate a computer.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Summer School July 1, 2024 - August 2, 2024, plus 16 hours of additional training, for a total of 18 days.  EMPLOYMENT CONTINGENT ON ENROLLMENT AND GRANT FUNDING

Classified, Temporary position at Edwards Elementary Campus. INTERNAL APPLICANTS ONLY

 

Calendar/Benefits:

7.5 hours per day, when school is in session July 1, 2024 - August 2, 2024, plus 16 hours of additional training, for a total of 18 days.

 

Salary Range 12 of the 2024-25 Classified Wage Schedule $21.60 - $27.49 per hour
