JOB SUMMARY:

Assist District staff in providing educational programs for migrant children to facilitate skill acquisition in academics, language, social, selfhelp, and motor areas. Maintain educational and attendance records, provide liaison services with parents, and provide for personal needs of the children served. Perform secretarial duties as needed to assist program coordinator and assist with recruitment of migrant students in Yamhill County.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

Knowledge of: Migrant program preferred; understanding of the experiences, working and living conditions, language and culture of the migrant society. Skilled in: basic computer programs (word processing and spreadsheets). Ability to:

maintain accurate records; work with a diverse population of students and parents; represent the program to the migrant students and parents; advocate for the student in the home and school settings. Requires fluency in Spanish and English and excellent communication skills. Willingness to work flexible hours. Commitment to attend all staff inservice meetings. Flexible and willing to do a variety of jobs to meet deadlines and complete all required training.

 

Experience:

Two Years experience as a migrant recruiter preferred.

 

Education: High School diploma or GED; prefer some college coursework.

 

Certification Required: Valid Oregon Driver's License and automobile insurance.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

 

  1. Recruit families to migrant program.
  2. Work with teachers, principals, students, and patrons to support student learning in the classroom.
  3. Translate in oral and written communication district documents, letters, and instructional needs to parents, students, and patrons of the Newberg School District.
  4. Provide interpreter services for staff, students and families.
  5. Collect data to be recorded in migrant student profiles and Oregon Migrant Student Information System (OMSIS).
  6. Maintain confidentiality about students and programs.
  7. Collect and maintain all necessary student and program data as required by Migrant Education Student Service Center (MESC).
  8. Work in partnership with ELL staff to enhance communication and maximize services to students and families.
  9. Make periodic reports to the Director of Instruction, the Superindendent, and the Newberg School Board
  10. Provide mediation, problem solving and conflict resolution to individuals and small groups when necessary.
  11. Cultivate and model a respectful working and learning environment.
  12. Ability to work harmoniously with others.
  13. Perform other duties as assigned.

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

 

Language Skills:

Ability to read English and Spanish and comprehend curriculum materials through grade 12. Ability to write clear and concise communications in English and Spanish.

 

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations with a high degree of accuracy.

 

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense to carry out detailed, but basic, written or oral instructions in English. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

 

Other Skills and Abilities:

Ability to work collaboratively and establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, supervisor(s), staff, students, parents and community.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk and may be continuously required to stand. The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk while performing the duties of this job. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee continuously uses hand strength to grasp tools. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. The employee may be required to sit at a desk and use a computer for long periods of time.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Works in a classroom environment in close proximity to students and other adults. May encounter students with emotional problems or hostile attitudes. May be required to use the telephone and operate a computer.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Summer School June 18, 2024 - August 1, 2024, not to exceed 120 hours.

 

CLASSIFICATION/LOCATION:

Classified, Temporary position at Edwards Elementary Campus.

 

Calendar/Benefits:

8 hours per day, June 18, 2024 - August 1, 2024, not to exceed 120 hours.

 

Salary Range 8 of the 2024-25 Classified Wage Schedule $18.47 - $23.49 per hour
