JOB SUMMARY:
Performs a variety of duties under the direction of the Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP). Provide services to students with speech and language needs as determined appropriate by the SLP and within the scope of practice defined by their licensure as a Speech-Language Pathologist Assistant.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Knowledge of: computers and technology. Good reading, writing, and organization skills. Ability to: (1) work independently with students individually and in small groups; (2) understand and take directions from supervising SLP; (3) adapt to a variety of classroom situations; (4) maintain a high level of confidentiality both in and out of the school setting; (5) operate office equipment. Flexible and willing to do a variety of jobs and complete all required trainings. Ability to communicate with Spanish speaking students and adults preferred.
Experience: Experience working in a public school setting. Experience working with students with disabilities preferred.
Education: Two years of college, associate's degree or passing score on a paraprofessional exam in reading, writing and math as required by federal law.
Certification Required: Oregon Board of Examiners Speech Language Pathologist Assistant (SLPA) License; Medic First Aid Card.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Conduct speech and language screenings without interpretation, utilizing screening protocols specified by the supervising SLP.
- Provide direct treatment assistance to students identified by the supervising SLP by following written treatment plans or protocols developed by the supervising SLP, excluding
- Document student progress, without interpretation of findings, toward meeting established objectives as stated in the treatment/lesson plan and report this information to the supervising SLP.
- Assist in the maintenance of school documentation and other clerical duties of students' needs, progress, disabilities, and relevant anecdotal information and clearly communicate these to SLP, case managers and other appropriate building and Direct personnel.

- Formally and informally review and summarize student performance according to the protocol prescribed by the SLP at the end of each session.
- Identify, organize and prepare age-appropriate and culturally sensitive materials for intervention when given a treatment goal and target by the SLP.
- Develop activity plan to instruct small student groups and provide one-on-one tutoring of students as directed by SLP.
- Plan, consult and provide training to team of teachers, and other District personnel within the scope of duties.
- Understand and carry out oral and written directions.
- May assist in health-related procedures, i.e. hygiene, toileting, etc.

Language Skills:
Ability to read English and comprehend curriculum materials through grade 12. Ability to write clear and concise communications in English.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations with a high degree of accuracy.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense to carry out detailed, but basic, written or oral instructions in English. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

The employee continuously uses hand strength to grasp tools and frequently performs repetitive motions. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. The employee may be required to sit at a desk and use a computer for long periods of time.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Works when school is in session. Performance will be evaluated in accordance with Board policy on the evaluation of Classified personnel.

CALENDAR/BENEFITS:
7 hours per day; 185 day Calendar.
Salary range 16 $25.28 - $32.15 per hour per the 2024-25 Classified Salary Schedule.
