Description

Job Summary:
The Licensed Substitute Teacher will be responsible for carrying out all duties and responsibilities associated with substitute teaching. This includes accepting daily classroom assignments as determined by the District or designated school administrator. The position will require effective classroom management, lesson delivery, and student engagement across various subject areas for students in grades K-5.

 

Qualifications:

Ability to implement lesson plans, manage classroom behavior, assess student progress, and adapt teaching methods to individual learning needs. Strong oral and written communication skills. Proficiency in Spanish is preferred but not required.

 

Experience:

Previous teaching experience is preferred but not required.

 

Certification Requirements:

A valid teaching license or District Substitute License issued by the Oregon Teacher Standards and Practices Commission (TSPC), or the ability to obtain one.

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Language Skills: 

Ability to read English and comprehend complex technical language.  Ability to write memoranda, correspondence, and facilitate lesson plans.  Ability to effectively present information in one-to-one and small-group situations.

 

Mathematical Skills:  

Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations with a high degree of accuracy. 

 

Reasoning Ability: 

Ability to apply common sense to carry out detailed but basic written or oral instructions in English.  Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

 

Other Skills and Abilities:  

Ability to work collaboratively and establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisor(s), staff, students, parents, and community.

 

Physical Demands: 

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk and may be continuously required to stand.  The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk while performing the duties of this job.  The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.  The employee continuously uses hand strength to grasp tools. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.  The employee may be required to sit at a desk and use a computer for long periods of time.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Works in a school environment.  Able to use a telephone, operate a computer, and use other office equipment. 

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Salary in accordance with ORS 342.610, which establishes the minimum salary for Substitute Teachers for the 2024-2025 school year.

 

CLASSIFICATION:                    

Full-time, temporary position based at Edwards Elementary School for the remainder of the 2024-2025 school year but available to serve at all other district Elementary campuses to fill positions.

 

CALENDAR/BENEFITS:

Work Hours:

8 hours per day; prorated based on the number of days remaining in the 165-day contract.

 

Start Date:

As soon as possible upon hire.

 

Pay Rate:

$211.92 per day, with the possibility of an increase for assignments lasting more than 10 consecutive days. For assignments beyond 10 days, the rate increases by 15% (1/190th of the district's annual salary for beginning teachers).
