JOB SUMMARY:

Responsible for the daily repair and maintenance of district buildings and facilities, performing assigned work in a neat and orderly manner.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Working knowledge and considerable experience working in one or more of the following areas: Construction, carpentry, plumbing, mechanics, sheetrock, plaster, painting, glazing or other building maintenance-related areas.

 

Knowledge of: safety and accident prevention measures.

 

Ability to:  read blue prints, keep records, and make reports; plan repair jobs; maintain

harmonious relationships with fellow employees, students, faculty and the general public; and work with minimal supervision. Flexible and willing to do a variety of jobs to meet deadlines and complete all required training. Ability to communicate with Spanish speaking students and adults preferred.

 

Experience: Previous maintenance and/or maintenance experience. Experience preferred in alarm panel systems. 

 

Education: High school diploma or general education degree (GED).

 

Certification Required: Valid driver's license and good driving record; medic first aid card.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Perform skilled craftsman-like" work on a wide variety of miscellaneous mechanical and building trade tasks of a skilled and semi-skilled nature as assigned.
  2. Keep accurate records filling out reports on work completed and/or needed as assigned, including work requests and work orders.
  3. Maintain tools, vehicles, and maintenance shop in good order.
  4. Inspect work assignments and plan the completion of projects, including compiling material lists, and selecting appropriate materials.
  5. Assist fellow employees as requested or assigned.
  6. Identify aspects of assignments requiring journeyman skills or specific licensing and reporting those needs to the Coordinator of Operations and Safety.
  7. Maintain high standards of safety and personal conduct.
  8. Direct the work of Maintenance I or other helpers as assigned. 
  9. Use district approved procedures in handling potentially infectious/hazardous materials.
  10. Cultivate and model a respectful working and learning environment.
  11. Ability to effectively work and communicate with students, parents, and school personnel from diverse cultures or backgrounds in English, Spanish, or other languages related to the job.
  12. Ability to work harmoniously with others.
  13. Perform other duties as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

 

Language Skills: Ability to read English and comprehend complex technical language. Ability to write memos and correspondence in English. Ability to effectively present information in one-to-one small group situations.

 

Mathematical Skills: Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations with a high degree of accuracy.

 

Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense to carry out detailed, but basic, written or oral instructions in English. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

 

Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to work collaboratively, establish, and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, supervisor, staff, students, parents and community.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk and may be continuously required to stand. The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk while performing the duties of this job. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee continuously uses hand strength to grasp tools. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The employee may be required to sit at a desk and use a computer for long periods of time.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. 

 

Works in a school environment. Works both inside and outside in a wide variety of weather conditions. Work requires walking and working on uneven ground over surfaces that are sometimes slippery. Work may require the use of ladders, a wide variety of machinery and equipment as well as various chemicals. Able to use a telephone, operate a computer, and use other office equipment. Able to drive to other program sites and meetings.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Twelve-month period with vacation time as established. Performance will be evaluated in accordance with established procedures on evaluation of classified personnel.

 

CLASSIFICATION/LOCATION: Classified, Full Time Position, Physical Plant.


CALENDAR:  8 hours per day, 260 day contract. 6am to 2:30pm

 

SALARY/BENEFITS:

Salary Range 13 of the Classified Wage Schedule Salary $22.47 - 28.59 per the 2024-2025 classified wage schedule.
